I like nice things, but I try to save whenever I can. This is what I do to make sure I am making the most of all my purchases. Here are just a few strategies I use when I buy beauty products.
- Gifts with purchase: I like to make sure that if I am ordering online, I do so when there is a good gift with purchase available. Nordstrom is the best at this in my book. Often, they will have an amazing collection of samples and trial sizes with a minimum spend. And because I like to save my shopping for when deals are available, I meet that spend. Then I get to try a bunch of new products too.
- Savings events: Looking at you Sephora. When that Beauty insider sale comes through, I am stocking up. I may or may not have made myself wait for weeks without a leave-in conditioner just waiting for the sale to come back around. I mentally couldn’t justify making a purchase knowing I could save on it if just waited.
- Email sign-up discounts: Sometimes looking at products repeatedly on line, let the cookies track you. If you use an email link from a retailer, they track it. Sometimes you will get a discount code or incentive gift with purchase.
- Bonus gift card events (note, you cannot earn Nordstrom points when you make a purchase with gift cards: Nordstrom will have periodically the option to get a bonus card if you purchase a gift card. Say you buy $150 worth of gift cards, they will send you $25 bonus gift card. Often there is a time limit to use it though, so be aware. In addition, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus will periodically provide a gift card if you reach a certain spend.
- Sign up for loyalty programs- hand over your data for free shipping, discounts, and special gifts on your birthday.
- Take advantage of discounts based on occupations- military, veteran, teachers, students, healthcare. Check the sites and look for what qualifies.
