Améline is a release from Phlur’s rebrand. I must admit, I didn’t really know what I should have expected from this. But with a name like Améline, I would expect it to be feminine and soft. And for some reason I also expected it to smell like almonds. To me, this smells “clean,” like a powdery floral scent coming from someone who is well bathed.

50 mL for $96
Notes :
Top: Italian bergamot
Heart: Rose, pink pepper
Base: Patchouli, sandalwood
Each time I wore Améline, I continued to interpret it as soft and powdery and “clean.” Perhaps it was too soft, because I didn’t notice it throughout the day. Even when I committed to spraying each pulse point multiple times, I still didn’t notice it on myself unless I was intentionally sniffing my skin. I wore this out in a public meeting; no one was repulsed or intrigued. (Then again, I didn’t comment on another participant’s fragrance, either.) In terms of longevity, it just stayed very close to skin all day.
In contrast to my experiences, Phlur, describes it as, “…a rose reinvented. … not powdery …. Provocative, evocative, and undeniably fresh- Améline is no wallflower.” On me, Ameline is most certainly a wallflower. She stayed hidden in the background, too shy to project her scent out into the world. This, on me, seemed as inoffensive as a floral scent could be, certainly not provocative. I know that perhaps my palate for fragrances is immature and couldn’t capture all that the brand wanted to do with the fragrance. Or maybe it just wasn’t as groundbreaking as they hoped it would be.
What do I suggest for you? I would suggest this for you if you are looking for a lighter floral, that won’t overpower. But make sure you test this out on your skin. Maybe you’ll be able to pick up the notes as the brand intended. Am I going to add this to my collection? No, I already have clean scents and soft florals that I love more. This did not wow me, but it does feel safe enough for me to comfortably use it up. And then probably not buy again.
