Dreams Macao Resort: Room Tour

I recently stayed at the Dreams Macao Resort in Punta Cana. Let’s do a quick room tour. But first getting there. There are multiple building on the property. From my understanding, the types of rooms may vary around the resort. And perhaps you may have a different layout if you book the standard vs preferred club. We booked the preferred club rate, and at this point I can’t tell you exactly the name of the building. Just know that your set up and amenities may differ. Also because of all of the different buildings to choose from, make sure you book together if you are planning a trip with multiple people.

Our room was on the third floor, which was accessible by stairs and an elevator. All of the rooms had external entrances. What I mean is that your door opened to the outside. This was great because you were instantly in the beach air, and I must admit the roof provided enough rain coverage.

Once in the room, it was a welcoming aesthetic. It was sufficiently large for two people unpacking and existing as well as entertaining family and friends. I also want to call out that the aesthetic of the room was appropriately beachy. I noticed that and appreciated it.

We had two beds. Both were a good size, and I have no complaints on the comfort level. I slept well.

The bathroom was spacious. It was essentially divided into three rooms. Separate toilet. Sink area. There was a shower room. The bath tub was in there, along with two shower heads on opposite sides of the room and hand-held sprayers.

The bathroom amenities included body wash shampoo and conditioner, but also a really helpful bottle of sunscreen. I enjoyed the scents of all of the products, and I debated if it was worth it to pack it all into my overstuffed luggage. I just parted with the sunscreen.

I will also point out they had incense in the bathroom. I think that was a nice touch to create a calming environment for someone who might to take a long relaxing bath. Or in my travel companion’s case, just create a vibe to do your hair.

The there was a touch pad that could be used to make orders and whatnot. But I need to place emphasis on could. It did not respond to touch at all. The pictures kept changes but it was no use. I thought it might have been because the screen was cracked, but others said theirs didn’t’ work in their rooms either

When we got in the room, there was a beach tote. There were robes, but the robe was torn. Also had slippers that were printed with the logo.

The fridge was stocked with was stocked with water, and other beverages, and candy.

The preferred rate should have a bottle of liquor in there, but we did not have any stocked in the room on arrival There was a can of pringles. We quickly ate the snacks. I noticed housekeeping didn’t restock anything but the water and coffee.

The room also featured a coffee maker who became my arch nemesis. Me trying to figure out how to use that thing became an entire plot line in the story of the trip.

It took multiple how-to videos, constant internet searches, and divine intervention to get that thing to make coffee. I firmly believe they should just leave the owner’s manuals beside these machines.

Finally, we had a balcony with a bathtub. It looked out on the rest of the resort.

I later found out that you can also book a swimout room where the patio led in to a small pool that was then connected by a small channel of water to other rooms. It didn’t lead out to a larger pool or even the ocean. I suppose the benefit is if you just want to sit in the water in relative privacy, even though your neighbors and the rest of the resort can still see you.

Some important information. We booked this room at the preferred club rate. That means that some of the amenities may not be available in standard bookings. That should only really impact the bathroom amenities and how the fridge is stocked.

Overall, there was some good and some needs improvement, if I were to think about grading the place. I wasn’t happy that some things seemed to be poorly maintained, including the robes and the tablet. I am also trying to understand the value of the preferred club. It wasn’t terribly apparent how much different in would make the experience. Essentially, it was the same room as the standard, but maybe more alcohol and better soap. If I somehow made it back to the resort, I would book just the standard rate, based on the room alone. The room itself was great. It was just a problem with the amenities.
