Recently, I stayed at the Dreams Macao resort in Punta Cana. This is an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic. When we arrived, our transportation dropped us off in front of the lobby, which was essentially a building on its own. It had a stand out front, similar to a valet. where they checked out bags to be delivered to our room. The man working there asked us for our reservation, and then consulted a list. He didn’t see us on it. I obviously panicked internally while my traveling companion talked through it. We went inside to wait in the extensive line to check in. while we waited, an employee came around with glasses of champagne. Other people went to get drinks from the bar in the area. Then when finally got to the front, we were informed that we were in the wrong line because we had booked the preferred rate. It was at this point we started to learn the differences between the standard and preferred club bookings.
We were then whisked away by cart to the preferred lounge to check-in. During that check in process, we were invited to have a seat, grab a snack, and get a drink while someone was brought to help us. That is when we went through the standard check in procedure in a much more relaxed way. We learned about the amenities available to us.
These are my tips:
- If you booked preferred club, tell the attendant that to ensure you go through the right check-in process.
- If you are under the standard rate and getting in right at check-in time, expect to wait in line.
- If you are traveling with someone, one of you should definitely get a drink for both of you while you wait.
As I post more about my experiences, I’ll weigh in on the room, resort, and the food. Check back in to learn more.
