Previously, I came to you a review of the Dior Prestige Crème. I had been waiting to do this review of the Prestige Serum because I wanted more time with it. I wanted to know how it worked on its own paired with a moisturizer from a different line, a different brand even. So here I am, after a month of using it, all by its lonesome.

Dior Prestige La Micro-Huile de Rose Advanced Serum
$175 for .5 oz
Serum designed to fight the signs of aging by firming and plumping the skin to reduce wrinkles
As a bit of backstory, in my past I didn’t really have problem skin. But curiosity got the best of me and I was using products that wreaked havoc on my face. (I am looking at you Good Genes by Sunday Riley, especially.) I had some dark marks for a while as a result that made me feel self-conscious. During the first go round of using this product with the crème, I went to go get a free makeup session (because I will finally learn how to do this). The associate asked if I used foundation. I said no. She replied, “You don’t need it. Your skin is great.” I wrote it off as the kind of flattery people in sales use to get you to buy.
Then I got home, washed my face, and moisturized. I looked up in the mirror and noticed how even my skin looked. The tone was consistent. There wasn’t the redness or blotchiness that had been there before. The dark marks had faded. I even had a breakout a few days ago. Where was that? Aside from maybe concealing some undereye darkness, I actually didn’t need foundation. It was the healthiest my skin had looked in quite some time, since I started testing so many products. At the time, I had been using the Dior Prestige Serum consistently with the moisturizer. Then I took a break from those products for my trip to Nigeria.
More recently I started testing the serum on its own and with other moisturizers. Early on I put serum on my whole face and the just put my Tatcha moisturizer on one half. For some reason, my whole face felt dry. One night I forgot to put moisturizer over top at all. My face felt dry, but not as dry this time because I used more serum. I did one night with moisturizer over my whole face, and again my face felt dry. I have to admit that I even paired with La Crème, this wasn’t giving me optimal moisture then either. Then I started applying using facial massage techniques and then putting the moisturizer on by patting it rather than rubbing it in. That felt better.
To be fair, the Prestige line is not billed as one that is hydrating, but it should make your skin more beautiful. So fine, my face felt dry, but did it look better? Well, I noticed that my pores had gone back to being more visible. I didn’t experience a toning effect like the lotion provided. But my overall skin tone is improving. I experienced some acne while using this, but it faded fairly quickly instead of leaving dark marks. I don’t believe my skin looks plumper, but to be honest, that wasn’t really a problem for me to begin with.
Because of my skin’s needs, this is not the best product for me. My key need right now is moisture, and this doesn’t do that for me. In their defense, this is not billed as a moisturizing product or as great for dry skin.
But let’s say that is not your key concern. Let’s say your main focus is anti-aging and complexion correction, then this would be great for you. Just be sure to pair this with a moisturizer that really meets your needs. Maybe you’ll want to try it with the rest of the line.
