Meril: A quick New Orleans restaurant review

I’m going back in time here for this restaurant review. And maybe that’s not fair, because things change. But here is my quick review of Meril, an Emeril Lagasse restaurant in New Orleans. I had high hopes.

My party started with a round of appetizers.

  • Pineapple Upside down cornbread- Memorable. I would love for them to come to my home and prepare that dish for me weekly. I would say every day, but that could get expensive
  • Korean wings- if you like Korean barbecue, you will like this. It was smoky and sweet. I take that back. If you like sweet smoky barbecue wings with crisp skin, this is great.

And my personal entrée was the Lamb Ragu. This is not currently on the menu, as I can see, and I’m not mad about that choice. I really wish I would have finished my dinner with the appetizers instead. I was underwhelmed. It seemed watery, bland. It was as if they didn’t bother slow-cooking the ragu and just dumped canned diced tomatoes on my plate. I was so disappointed.

Despite my underwhelming entrée, I would go back to give them a second chance. The appetizers were enough for me to assume the best for other meals on the menu. Mostly though, I really just want more of that cornbread.
