How familiar you are with the brand Algenist? Not very? Okay here is a quick background.
The key ingredient for the brand is algae. Only now did it register that is probably the inspiration for the brand name and insight on how to pronounce it. Algae is what the brand uses to make their patented Alguronic acid, Vegan Collagen, and Vitamin C. (Their proprietary vegan collagen is made from plant fibers. That of course means that it is not true collagen but was designed to mimic the structure and results.) If you have anything against algae and sea plants, this is not the brand for you. But if you are looking for a vegan product with the effects of collagen, stay focused here. I had just a little taste, a one day use of its Genius Liquid Collagen. These are my first impressions.
After cleansing my skin, I smoothed the serum all over my face. I wanted to let it dry somewhat, but my impatience got the best of me. I went ahead and moisturized before it fully dried. But as an important note, I only put my Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream on the right side of my face. The left side only had the liquid collagen. And then I went to sleep.
The next morning, when I looked in the mirror, I preferred the left side. With just the liquid collagen alone, it looked fuller and more plump, more moisturized. I’m not sure why it didn’t just enhance my moisturizer, but I imagine maybe the ingredients didn’t pair well together across the two different brands. Now I wonder how it works with the rest of the Algenist line.
I didn’t experience any irritation with this product, and I liked what I saw on day one. So now I am curious how the products will work for me over the long term. Granted I only tried it for a day. There are so many other things that go into the effectiveness of a skincare product. 24 hours or rather one night time application is not enough.
I need to add that it was during a humid summer that I tested this product. If it were winter, I may not like it as much. That said, be mindful that your individual skin type and environment may affect how well this works for you. That said, it sure did make a good first impression on me.
