Smelling Sundazed by Byredo + Why you need to smell more fragrances (even the ones you think you’ll hate)

I went in and blindly sniffed Sundazed by Byredo without the notes. I didn’t know what to expect, but I expected the tried-and-true notes often in summery fragrances. Instead, I was surprised to smell warm florals. Sweet warm florals.

Byredo Sundazed Eau de Parfum

$205 for 50 mL

Notes:

Top: Lemon, mandarin

Heart: Neroli, jasmine sambac

Base: Musks

Based on the listed notes I found, I was surprised it smelled so sweet. But in their description, Byredo uses the words “cotton candy” and “sugar rush” to describe it. I like the scent, but I still have to figure out when I would wear it. I’m not sure about sweeter fragrances during the day in the summer. To be honest, I’m not sure about sweet fragrances overall, but please let me know how you choose to wear it.

I could smell it on my self at the end of the day the first time I wore it. Then the next day, a few hours after I had sprayed it on, I got a “Ooo, you smell good,” from a fellow fragrance lover at work. Clearly was enough projection for someone two feet away from me to smell it.

If you like sweeter floral fragrances this might be one for you to try. Honestly, I’m glad I gave it a try. This and the other fragrances I have been trying lately are helping me get over my fear of neroli. For some reason when I have tried fragrances with that note I hated them. The florals seemed to get overpowering and pretty much choked me out. Logically, I assumed that I should avoid any scent with the note listed. However, I have been pleasantly surprised enough times to doubt that. Perhaps you’re just like me on your fragrance journey, with a list of known yeses and nos. Give yourself over to a spirit of discovery and willingly try everything. You just might find some unexpected favorites.
