“Is it and outfit? Or is she just skinny?” That is the critique you’ll see as influencer and celebrity outfits get turned in to viral inspiration. The claim is that if someone else larger were wearing it, then no one would care. Or that person would be shamed. Many observers have point out that celebrity outfit posts are more a celebration of their bodies than their style.
I forget where I found this to provide proper credit, but one commenter suggested that it is not about clothing sizes, it is (often) about just dressing in a way that suits their body types. Yes, some of this has to do with the ideals we have about what is considered attractive. Then you have to decide what is attractive, what image you want to project, and then dress the part.
If you want to look curvier, if you want to look flatter, if you want to disappear into the void, your clothing choices can help you do that. If you ideal of beauty is a longer torso or longer limbs, dress in a way that highlights that. If you want to work in harmony with your shape, choose clothing that works with and not against you. Establish what you consider to be ideal, then use clothing to emphasize that appearance or create the illusion.
We all have ideals about what we consider beautiful. Fashion is about learning to dress in a way that helps you achieve the image you want while working with your own shape, regardless of your size.
