First impressions of Cay Skin Isle Glow Face Lotion

Cay Skin was started by Winnie Harlow. While they have multiple skincare products, their bread and butter is suncare. Because of Harlow’s experience with extreme sunburn and need to protect her skin with vitiligo from the sun, I am just going to go ahead and trust in their sun protection properties. But here is my experience trying their Isle Glow facial sunscreen.

Isle Glow Face Lotion SPF 45$34 for 1.5 ozReef safe facial sunscreen that provides a pearlescent shimmer to illuminate your skin before you even get into the sun

I have to admit, I was biased by Reddit. I saw a lot of people complaining about the product. I saw other reviews taking issue with the product. Even though this is was a face product, I did not put it on my face, because I did not want to take that risk. Am I still going to tell you about my experience? Yes, yes, I will. Truthfully, you should always do a patch test on your arm before putting products on your face in case of reactions. Consider this my patch test.

When I first dispensed it, it came out in an unappetizing form, like the product was not well emulsified. Then, I shook the bottle vigorously, but the result was the same. I squeezed a bit out onto my arm and spread it out and forgot about it. Later that day I noticed that there was glitter all over my pants, which then made me look at the arm that had been resting on them. It was shimmery. Pretty. I suppose that this is the pearlescent glow they speak of.

I can’t imagine wanting my face my entire face to look like this, unless I was very intentionally trying to do the Twilight makeup trend. But I like the look on my arms. If the body sunscreen has the same effect, I will definitely invest before my next vacation.

One thing I want to call attention to is that it seems that the product is on backorder until July 7, 2023. I imagine there may be a different formula that could potentially address the issues with separation I noticed. Hopefully, other batches are smoother.

Now that I know that this product is fine for my skin, I’m going to go ahead and test it on my face next week and compare it to another glow sunscreen.
