When I tried Byredo’s Eyes Closed in store earlier this year, I was hooked. It sultry, it was different, but it had been a long day of fragrance sniffing. I needed more time with it to gather my true opinion. Trying a fragrance on paper is one thing. I needed to know how it would behave on me.

Byredo Eyes Closed eau de parfum
$290 for 100mL
Notes:
Top: Cardamom, cinnamon
Mid: Carrot, ginger, orris butter
Base: Papyrus, patchouli
I sprayed it on skin and felt underwhelmed. That day I was looking for a beast of a fragrance. It just settled on me. It was too calm. I wanted bold. But maybe that’s unfair given the name and the intention. Byredo describes the scent as “warm skin,” and I assure that is what it gave me: Me, but better.
I sprayed the fragrance on myself at roughly 10 AM. Though it never really projected, it remained constant and close to skin long into the night. I imagine this being best suited for close encounters and a warm embrace. Not for a time where you want the world to smell you, but just that one special person.
This is a fragrance that I will continue to play with. So far, I’ve tried mixing it with a vanilla fragrance, but that seemed to overpower it. My goal is to keep using and coming to appreciate Eyes Closed in its own right. It just might grow on me.
If you are looking for subtle, close to skin fragrance, give Byredo’s Eyes Closed a try.
