The Grand Hotel Asaba Resort and Convention Center sits on the River Niger. And it is there on its property that you will find the Asabaamaka, a picturesque Chinese restaurant. Admittedly, when I traveled to Nigeria, that is not the type of cuisine I had in mind. But you can’t miss the views the restaurant provides from its dining room and its seating out on the pier. I will recommend admiring the view from inside, as there were no lights on the pier but plenty of mosquitos.

We were treated to a family style meal with multiple courses. The drinks on offer were hot tea, water, and assorted soft drinks. First were the appetizers. Chicken egg rolls, fried prawns, and chicken wings came out of the kitchen in abundant quantities. That tricked me into believing that was the main course, so I ate my fill. And the pepper sauce that came with it made want to figure out how to r recreate it as my go to dipping sauce. After I was at the level of reasonably satiated, the entrees arrived. Spicy fried rice, spicy, noodles, beef and fish. It was a lot of food. I don’t know what we were thinking. There was no way we could finish it all.

I would say that the service was good, even though I overheard a couple squabbling over some detail and requesting the manager. It was entertaining, but not indicative of what my experience was.
If you are looking to add to a travel itinerary for a trip to Nigeria, definitely consider it. Even If you are not a fan of spicy food, as that appeared to be the only modifier on the menu, it is worth to go just for the view and take in the natural scenery.
