Three things I will always have: Lip balm, hand cream, and boat shoes. I am not a native to new England, heck the only time I have been on a boat I wasn’t even allowed to wear shoes. But I must admit, I love ‘em, specifically Sperry Topsiders. Now, my time in college is when I found they were a thing. And then I decided I wanted in on that thing. It didn’t matter that no one in my friend group ever wore them. Didn’t matter that eventually it became a running joke that I would always be in Sperrys. It didn’t even affect me that where I was boat shoes were associated with frat guys and their girlfriends. They were and continue to be the shoe that I turn to when I need something casual, but don’t want to be sloppy. And now that it’s starting to heat up again, it might be time for a new pair.
