I tried the Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Serum shortly after using the J Lo beauty serum. Needless to say I had low expectations. The JLo Beauty serum was not good for me, and I assumed it was because of the fermented ingredient. This serum also features a fermented ingredient, which to me meant it also wouldn’t be good for me. Nevertheless, I gave this serum a try. Because I only used this product over a couple of days. I can only give a first impression, not the long-term results.

Shiseido says this serum should boost your skin’s defense. Meaning, it should improve your moisture barrier with what they call ImuGenerationRED Technology™. The key ingredients are
- FERMENTED ROSELLE EXTRACT: Roselle is an antioxidant rich variation of the hibisicus flower. The flower is known to have benefits when ingested, but Shisedo claims the fermented extract of the plant should also should help your skin hold on to water better and remain plumper and smoother.
- HEARTLEAF EXTRACT: This product is a known anti-inflammatory and is often indicated for sensitive skin. Shiseido uses it to soothe, strengthen, and detox the skin.
- REISHI MUSHROOM: This is an antioxidant superfood you might be seeing everywhere these days. It is used here for anti-aging effects.
- IRIS ROOT EXTRACT: And now I am getting lazy, so here is what Shiseido writes on their site: “Known to survive in extreme temperatures, this hardy plant is recognized for its vitality and moisturizing abilities.”
First impression, it definitely has a scent. Is that wine? I think that is what I would compare it, too. Personally, it’s not bad and doesn’t feel overly fragranced at all to me. I applied this shortly after washing my face. And then I left it at thatI wanted to see how my skin would retract to it alone and left off moisturizer. And I was surprised. It seemed moisturizing enough for me. My skin didn’t look dry in the morning. The next time I layered my Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream over top. Still good results.
I would say that I had a pretty good experience the couple of days that I used the product. . I didn’t experience any irritation. The areas around my nose didn’t get angry like they do with a lot of products. My skin was moisturized. And while the brand suggests that you should see results in just 3 days, I would want to use it over a longer term to better gauge the results.
I think it is a good sign that of the 1 star reviews, many are just complaining that the sample is too small. There were also some people who said that it didn’t plump or hydrate their skin as expected, and some say it made their acne or skin condition worse. And to contrast my initial thoughts, others hated the smell.
Thinking about my experience and the reviews, I would suggest you start with a sample. I personally found the product to do what it said it would, but know that no product works for everyone. If you have dry skin, this might be worth a try. Specifically, I suggest getting into a store that stocks this, so you can test the texture and have them make a sample for you.
I am interested in trying more from the brand.
