You don’t have to believe in yourself

This idea, that you don’t have to believe in yourself, is not my original idea. I just listened to a podcast by Rob Dial, his Mindset Mentor. The episode was entitled, “How to Believe in Yourself,” in response to a listener question. His answer was essentially that you don’t have to.

We often think that the thing getting in our way is our lack of confidence. “If I just believed in myself more, then…” But you don’t have to be confident to take action. That is not how it works. That is not how confidence works.

You feel confident in your ability to do things because you have done things. Essentially, you’ll believe it when you see it. Once you finally do that thing, you will trust that you can do that thing. Confidence is not bestowed upon you; it is earned. So if you don’t feel confident, it is time to get to work.

Time for me to go take my own advice.
