The Knickerbocker Hotel Review: The room

The Knickerbocker Hotel is located in Times Square, great if you want to be in the center of the action. Stepping off the busy street, barely dodging lost tourists and photo takers, the lobby was a reprieve. It looked the part of a luxury hotel. (Of course, I have no photo of it.) We walked up and around towards the check in. We sat across from the employee. Yes, we sat. I never before had the luxury of sitting after a long journey to do the check-in procedure. The woman helping us was amazingly pleasant. Then we were off to our room.

It was a deluxe room. I thought was calming and minimalistic. My traveling companion described it this way: “The energy in the room is empty. Why are there no paintings? No art on the wall?” Personally, I didn’t notice that. I did notice that there was no coffee maker. And that made me sad.

The room was very cold. It was also February in New York, but my goodness. I had to set the heat up pretty high to finally stop shivering as I sat in the room trying to get some work done.

The bed was very comfortable. I slept well. The blackout shades probably helped as well. I will tell you though, it took a while to figure those out. I really wish that hotels would include a little note about how the room works, instead of sending you off on a great adventure to figure it out on your own. (Ahem, the 1 Hotel did. Just saying.)

The shower room is what I will call that area. I could have laid down on the floor and not touched the walls. The shower was so large, the staff confidently hangs the bath robes in there with no fear they will get wet.

The toiletries were all Diptyque. I thoroughly enjoyed using the hand cream most of all. I’m thankful I had a chance to try all of those products. (I may or may not have taken the bar soap with me. Shh.)

I liked the room overall, but I can see where my companion was coming from. If you want a space to rest and relax well, the place was great. Everything was luxurious and of high quality. However, if you care about the personality of the room, you might be happier in another place.

Check out my next posts as I put together my final review of the hotel.

P.S. I forgot about this little umbrella. It was a nice touch. I could see that being very helpful for summers.
