I remember, years ago, I tried Prada Candy at a Sephora, when I was first getting into fragrances. I was convinced this was the fragrance of my dreams. I wrote it down and committed myself to buying it in the future. I then proceeded to break that commitment. Now years later, I am trying it again.

As you might imagine, with a name like Candy, I was expecting something sickeningly sweet. That is not at all what I noticed. On my skin the fragrance seemed more powdery, the same way it smelled on paper. The scent was not at all like a confectionery shop. Maybe the sweetness is in terms of the personality. This is a fragrance that seemed girly, but necessarily juvenile. I could imagine this being the signature fragrance of a woman who gives genuine compliments, bakes cookies for you when you’re having a bad day, and is just a joy to be around. Maybe I’m reading too much into things.
Before I move on to my recommendation, I want to take a moment to celebrate myself. I was confused, reading the notes as to why I thought it smelled powdery. As it turns, or at least according to Carrement Belle, that the synthetic white musk used in fragrances today has “floral shades and ambrettolide with powdery facets.” My nose is getting better! Alright!
I sprayed just a few sprays on myself, I didn’t hear any complaints, but not one gave me compliments either. It doesn’t seem to project very far, but it did have staying power close to the skin a few hours later.
Now, what do I think? As I wrote, I think this is a feminine leaning, and it is definitely a women-marketed fragrance. This is a scent that maybe more people would enjoy but not try, perhaps with the design on the bottle and marketing around it. It seems like it would be childish and overly sweet, but it’s not. Because it smells clean and pleasant, I imagine anyone can get away with wearing it. If you are too shy to claim it as a fragrance, you could just say you have great fabric softener.
If you have an interest at all in clean, powdery smelling scents, but you also want a touch of sweetness, give this one a try.
