Prabal Gurung’s imPOWER collection is available at JCPenney now

Prabal Gurung has partnered with JCPenney for a limited release collection, imPOWER. It is a collection of dresses of 25 dresses and jumpsuits available in select stores and online. From what it looks like on the site, styles are offered in standard and plus, with separate links for the same style. That gives a size range up to 24W.

Prabal Gurung for JCPenney Sleeveless Shift Dress

$59

This is the cute party dress that caught my eye

The collection goes beyond clothing and ties in to the start of Women’s History Month.  With the partnership, they have also brought on six women who are empowered in their own right, Shalom Harlow, Natalia Bryant, Varsha Thapa, Nyakio Grieco, Cece Meadows and Sara Happ. Each will see a $10,000 donation from JCPenney to an organization of their choosing. They will also donate to Shikshya Foundation Nepal, which Gurung supports.

Brining in Gurung, and doing the collection in this way, down to the models chose to wear the product on the e-commerce site, there is clear intention to convey a message of welcome to all women. The quotes used all signal the idea of inclusivity, of beauty being available to all, despite their income level. Admittedly, I am looking more at this example as I pull together my ideas on fashion and exclusivity. Stay tuned for that.
