Robbers target Canada Goose wearers, my fear about luxury

News broke the other day that people wearing Canada Goose coats have been targeted in a string of armed robberies. Robbers placed the victims at gunpoint and ordered them to surrender their coats. Police are pleading with people to comply for their own safety and do their best to get a description of the suspect. The BBC reported an uptick of the assaults in the DC area but pointed out such events have been reported as early as 2019.

Reading this story further feeds my worst fears around lhttps://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64605784uxury. I have a growing interest in luxury goods, but I worry that conspicuous designer goods would make me vulnerable to similar situations. How does one go about enjoying their items without living in the fear that these incidents can cause? It also gives me pause about considering the second-hand market. Even though resale items tie into sustainability, how can you be certain that what you are buying was not first stolen?

I know there are those who would say that such incidents are few and far between, or that you only need to be street smart to stay safe. I am not so sure that is a fitting answer to the problem. Beyond this being an issue around safety, I know there are more layers to this. I am just not yet ready to really think about how complex this issue is.
