As a child, I thoroughly enjoyed picking up books by Christopher Lloyd. He wrote fantasy that I just go lost in. One of his tales of adventure and renewal was The Three Lives of Lukas Kasha. It takes place a world away from where I was that fateful summer. It was a story of a member of royalty who fell down in social class and had to find himself yet again.

$170 for 100mL
Top notes: Bergamot, Saffron
Heart notes: Bulgarian Rose, Oud
Base notes: Amber, Oakmoss, Tonka bean, Cane sugar, white musk.
Today’s fragrance takes me away to another world. It feels regal and otherworldly. On first spray of Arabian Tonka by Montale, I knew instantly I wanted to cover myself in it. It is sweet but there is a depth to it that extends beyond just gourmand. Kind of like royalty hiding in plain clothes, it appears simple but is certainly rich. Tonka bean and cane sugar at the base are elevated by the notes of oud, rose, and bergamot.
When I wore this to work, my coworker stopped me. “What is that? Is it Dior? Chanel?” “No, it’s Montale.” She couldn’t place it, but in her mind it had to be expensive. It clearly projected out for others to smell, and I also could smell it on me in to the evening.
Would I recommend? Yes. If you want to smell expensive and downright regal, give it a try. Personally, I find it to be an easy way to start trying ouds and a great entry point in to the Montale brand.
