APL and McLaren collaborate yet again on the HySpeed shoe

APL and McLaren have released the second drop in their partnership, the APL McLaren HySpeed™. It’s a running shoe inspired by a speed demon of a car.

I have no idea how this partnership came about, but it seems like a good pairing. You have brand that is supposed is shoes engineered so well, it’s like you’re cheating by wearing them. Involving McLaren in this process provides creates the image of shoe that is unbelievably fast. You as the consumer could associate the speed of the car and its technology with how well it will perform on a run. Or as a car obsessed runner, you might be excited for this pairing that gives you a piece of the famed automotive company at small fraction of the price a vehicle. Or as a sneakerhead just get excited about something new. (Me, I am there at the third option.)

The colorways and design definitely got my attention. I especially am looking at the magenta ones, but I do not run nearly enough for this purchase to make sense for me to make. ☹. The shoe’s tongue is supposed to reference the seat design, and the midsole is infused with nitrogen. I am not entirely certain what that means, but the shoe is supposed to be extremely responsive and help propel you in your run. That to me means I better feel faster than ever wearing them. I am curious about the sizing. I know based on my previous APL purchases, the recommendation is to size up a half size. I would like to know how these fit, feel, and function on a run. know that typical APLs run a half size smaller than other brands.

I definitely saw the first launch and got curious. My interest is piqued yet again. I look forward to seeing how this partnership continues to evolve. Next step for me will be to see how I can see these shoes in person.

If you are interested, the shoes are available on the APL site and in their flagship store in Los Angeles at The Grove.
