This is what I knew about Glow Recipe before I decided to give their products a serious try: Cute fun packaging and everything has a fruit of some sore. If you are playing along, you should probably guess that means not very much. So having done little to no research ahead of time, I was a bit hesitant, but decided to give their Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops a longer term trial.
I, again, not really doing research first, was using it nightly. I would wash my face, then apply a couple of pumps all over, and then follow up with the Tatcha Dewy Cream as my moisturizer. (I told you it was going to be my basic moisturizer for testing.) I have to admit, I wasn’t amazed. But since my skin didn’t hate it, I decide to try it for an entire month. Here is how I thought about each of the intended uses.

And the dark, depressing acne scar that was on my right jaw also started to fade. These were two points of relief for me. This was the only serum I was using at the time so I will attribute the results to the product. Now, I can’t be certain that it was due to this product alone or if it was because I stopped using the offending products. Maybe time would have healed me.
The other thing I noticed was pore smoothing. My pores were just less noticeable. It reminded me of the healthy skin of my youth. I was happy to have that result. Except it didn’t last. Within days of stopping to use the product to try something else, I was back to square one. Was it just filling them in and not just improving my skin? I don’t know.
This is not a direct knock to the product, I still get acne. It makes no claims to help with that problem. However, it kind of seems pointless to have a product that will help me reduce acne scarring if it does nothing to reduce the root of the problem. But I digress.
Makeup Primer
One day, since it is the Glow Drops are supposed to be a primer, I decided to use it as a base before putting on a foundation that notoriously makes my skin look dry and flaky. And this is where I think the product shined. It made my foundation look so much better. I wouldn’t say I looked dewy, but it was underneath a matte foundation after all. My make up looked great all day. Granted, I was just sitting at home in a full face of makeup that whole day, but don’t worry about that.
I would be mindful that it may not pair well with all products. One morning, I decided to try a different sunscreen than my usual, and I couldn’t even put it on. It just started to ball up as I tried to smooth it on my face. This could be specific to that particular sunscreen, because it could also double as a primer, but just be aware of that being an issue that could come up.
Maximum Glow
I don’t think it is hydrating enough for my dry skin to try and use it as just a glow booster on its on. I have to have something over top it. They recommend using it as the last step in your skincare routine before you leave out for the day. Eh, I don’t know. Personally it wasn’t enough glow for it to be worth it. If you are looking for that glazed doughnut finish, this didn’t provide that. It did make skin feel as sticky as glazed doughnut, so that’s something. My face was so tacky, that I can’t imagine using that as the final step in my skincare routine, unless I deliberately wanted stuff to get stuck to my face throughout the day.
Would I recommend this product? I mean, I don’t not recommend it. I liked it as a primer. I think it did well to help with brightening dark spots. It has Glow in the name, yet it gave me no glow. I will continue using up the bottle as a primer. As for you, I would say give it a try, no matter your skin type. I just wouldn’t say you should definitely run out of your home to get it immediately.
