I had the extraordinary pleasure of staying at the Ojai Valley Inn in November. Now that it is the holiday season, I can only imagine what the experience would be like now. My experience there was a part of a larger conference, which means that I can’t give a full review of the property, but I can tell you all about my room. And I have a lot to say about that.
After checking in, I hopped on a golf cart to take me to the Mariposa building, where my room was located. I walked up with my key card to unload my bag and was amazed. I really had to pinch myself. I start taking pictures of everything with glee. My room featured two beds and a view of the golf course. Those were immediately obvious upon walking in. But then as I progressed further in to fully explore, I turned to see the bathroom.

The bathroom was opulent. I honestly felt like I was filming a Vogue Go to Bed with Me video as I washed my face. And I definitely acted as such. I felt that glamorous. Slippers, robe. Double vanity. Shower and bathtub. I am still weirded out by bathtubs, so I didn’t give it a try. (My photography skills don’t do it justice. Just trust me.)

I noticed the housekeeping crew left two oranges with a note. Housekeeping came twice a day I believe. After checking in late afternoon, I left my things a mess, only to return to my room to see things neatly in order. This happened again the next day. I did start to get self-conscious and try to keep things tidy so they didn’t feel the need to pick-up after me I was there three days and two nights. Additionally, each day, I noticed housekeeping left a different tiny memento to take the beauty of the place home. A packet of wildflower seeds to plant in my own yard. A small shower spray to turn my home bathroom into a relaxing spa.
My room had its own patio, where I chose to sit one morning to do some journaling in the quiet. Did I secretly fear coyotes? Yes. Are there even coyotes living out there on the golf course? Maybe not. But I didn’t want to find out. I also had a fireplace. It turned on and extinguished easily with a switch. I decided to do my next writing spells there on the neighboring chaise. Accompanied of course with a Nespresso. I thoroughly enjoy when rooms have those coffee makers.

As great as the amenities were, I think it is most important to say that I had great sleep. Was it the thread count or the calm serenity of the locale? I don’t know.
But of course, if you choose to stay at the Ojai Valley Inn, it is more than just a suite of rooms. I didn’t have enough time to experience it all and the opportunities that I had may be different than the usual offerings. The property offers a spa, an artist cottage & apothecary, fitness classes, gym, golf course, and hiking. And there is probably more I just didn’t experience.
My vote is that the Ojai Valley Inn is an excellent place to host conferences and corporate events but also enjoy on your own. If you are interested in having a resort experience in California, I highly recommend it.
