Viva magenta. You probably have seen the mention of the 2023 Pantone color of the year already. The company beckons you to the magentaverse. While I have been seeing quite a bit of magenta in stores, I wondered how this particular color got chosen. I was expecting to find more about the process, but instead I found poetry. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director for Pantone Color Institute, references the juxtaposition of a red so richly based in nature and the heavy tech focus of our time.

Rooted in the primordial, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.
Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director for Pantone Color Institute
Nature, strength, power. Not words I often think of in connection to pinks.
I have to admit, before learning this was to be the color of the new year, I was drawn to all of the items I saw released in similar hues. I can’t say that I have given much thought to the color of my clothing beyond where it works with my complexion and overall outfit. Instead of just seeing color as just fun, I’m curious now about how color can be used to convey a deeper meaning. There is something powerful in that.
