Philosophy’s Pore extractor clay mask. Not so bad

I did not begin with high hopes for the Philosophy Pore Extractor Mask. Before I get into it, I have to admit two things. 1. I didn’t know Philosophy made skincare. 2. I am often leery of clay masks, as someone with dry skin.

Philosophy Pore Extractor Clay Mask

$37 for 2.5 oz

Face mask with kaolin clay, salicylic acid, and natural exfoliants to help clear blackheads and improve skin texture

After cleansing, I applied a layer of the mask on the areas of my face I thought could use its benefits, namely areas where I am more prone to breakouts. I focused on the area around my nose, forehead, and my chin. I was less strict as I got to my cheeks, as they tend to be drier for me.

I let the mask start to dry, which gave me a bit of anxiety. “Is it going to suck all of the moisture from my face if I wait the recommended time?” I cut the time a minute short and began rinsing the mask off. It took a bit of work to get it off. Eventually, I switched to damp cloth to ensure I had removed every last bit of gray.

With amount of bias I had going into this, I ended up pleasantly surprised. It didn’t leave my skin feeling stripped. While I feel I could have used more extraction in my key areas, I feel that had more to do with user error, as I didn’t quite follow the instructions as I mentioned. Not to mention, they recommend two uses to see the best results.

What are my final thoughts? I would definitely try this again. I have only really thought of Philosophy as a maker of fragrances of body care. It was nice to get a peek into their skincare offerings. They recommend this product for all skin types, except sensitive. If you are looking for a clay mask, feel free to give this one a try.
