Mango Skin, a more mature fruity fragrance

Getting the sample of Mango Skin, by Vilhelm Parfumerie, was exciting. I had seen the bold yellow designs from the house before and really wanted to know what their stuff smelled like. This was my chance.

It smelled like mango (makes sense), but then there was something a bit bitter (was that the interpretation of biting in to the skin?). The first day I wore it, it seemed faint. It didn’t really project. No one at work commented on it. On me it didn’t seem too last long. It’s like it disappeared on my skin.

$245 for 100mL

Notes:

Top : blackberries, mango, black pepper
Middle : wild orris, black lotus, jasmin
Base : patchouli, vanilla, pink sugar

I found myself trying, really trying to overspray it and at least figure out if I were wrong about the smell. It still smelled fruity, but with an edge. When I was leaving on a trip, I sprayed it onto my wrist at 7 AM then headed to the airport. I could still smell it on my wrist at 10:15 AM while seated on the plane, and my seatmate didn’t seem annoyed. I continued to spray this on myself each day until the fragrance ran out.

What are my final thoughts? Well, this to me seems like a fruity fragrance that is done in a more sophisticated way. It pays homage to the fruit without being literal. That is something I appreciate. But for me, spraying it onto skin was underwhelming. Whatever happened when it mixed with my skin chemistry meant it didn’t project far or last long. I didn’t think to spray any on paper to compare, so I can’t tell you if there are any differences that way.

If you are looking for a fruity fragrance that is more grown up, give this a try. I myself think I would need to play with it some more before I definitively decide if it’s not for me. It may behave differently on you, especially in terms of longevity and projection. I’d love to know what your results are.
