Ebene Fume: First impressions of this Tom Ford masterpiece

If you were to press me for a description when I first smelled Ébène Fumé, I would have said, “It smells like By the Fireplace but after it took a serious meditation retreat.” It has the smokiness, but it also has a calming woody note. I find it amazing, with my subpar sense of smell, that I immediately felt what Tom Ford was going for when creating this fragrance.

“I wanted a scent that captured a meditative feeling. ÉBÈNE FUMÉ has an almost spiritual sensuality that uplifts your mood…which might be the most seductive indulgence of all.”

They brought together palo santo, which is often burned in some traditional meditation practices, with ebony wood, roses, cistus absolute, and leather. While I have seen some complain it doesn’t wear very long, I personally did not have this issue. Please note that how long a fragrance last on one person’s skin doesn’t guarantee a similar result on yours. On another note, I personally enjoyed being called back into the meditative element throughout the day.

On my commute, over the loud speaker rang out says, “Your peace is in your hands. Don’t let anyone or anything still your joy. They didn’t give it to you. Don’t let them take it.” The conductor then offered a blessing as everyone departs for the transfer point. That moment sparked me to consider using the scent I had applied on myself as a way to recenter, coming back to that truth again and again.

Personally, I am in love with this fragrance, but I am already a big fan of smoke and incense notes. If you are as well, I highly recommend you give this a try. Even if you aren’t, get a sample and let me know what you think.

If you would like to learn more, you can find this fragrance through Tom Ford and other retailers.
