Tatcha Rice Wash and Dewy Skin Cream on dry skin: A review

Today, I am providing you with two reviews on Tatcha products: The Rice Wash and the Dewy Skin Cream

The Rice Wash

$38

A pH balanced cleanser to smooth and soften skin

Key ingredients: Japanese rice powder, Okinawa algae blend, hyaluronic acid

Okay, this Rice Wash. One thing, it felt grainy. Is it supposed to be like that? (Maybe that’s from the rice powder.) And maybe this is just a me issue, but they say to create a lather and then use that on a damp face. Well, this product is very hard to lather. Like unnecessarily difficult to lather. I rubbed in my hands, it spread out, but I didn’t see any bubbles. Is that just me? I will try again. And no lather. What does lather even mean if you can’t produce bubbles?

Other than that, this was just a very stripping cleanser. My skin was instantly dried out. It felt and looked dry. I alternated using it with my Tata Harper Nourishing Oil Cleanser as I tested the Dewy Skin Cream. I don’t think I should use the Rice Wash everyday, since I find it to be very drying. I also didn’t test its ability to remove makeup because I didn’t wear any during the two weeks I tested it out.

The Dewy Skin Cream

$69 for 50 mL

A moisturizing cream to plump and hydrate

Key ingredients: Japanese purple rice, Okinawa algae blend, hyaluronic acid

Dewy skin cream- The first day I used it, it felt like it was slightly stinging my face. Then the next day, I noticed dry patches on my chin and cheeks. You can only imagine my disappointment. That evening, I decided to just use more moisturizer. Still felt the sting, but my face looked dewy when I woke up. Over time, it seemed fine for me. I just had to manage how much I put on. I’m used to being stingy with my moisturizers. I couldn’t do that with this one.  But that is all it does. It seems to be just a moisturizer.

“Wow, these kids these days are so needy. Is it a problem that a moisturizer just does its job and goes home? Aren’t all of you already doing the same thing with quiet quitting?”

Well yes and no. I like a multitasking product. I like a moisturizer that provides benefits to address other skin issues I’d like to address. If I can keep my regimen simple and still get results, then that is a win for me. However, at this point in my life, I am very curious about skincare. It is actually useful to me to be able to find a moisturizer without actives as I start testing additional products. I feel fairly confident that this would be a product I could use while I test the effects of different serums and treatments. So that is also a win for me personally.

And the question: Would I recommend these products? I would not recommend the Rice Wash if you have dry skin. (Based on the ritual finder, the brand suggests the Camelia Cleansing Oil for the dry skin PM ritual.) If you have normal skin or combo skin, this may be great for you. I would recommend the Dewy Skin Cream if you are interested in a no-frills moisturizer that does the job.
