The On x Loewe collaboration that flew well below my radar

Well, I had no idea that On and Loewe partnered for a special edition run. The pairing brough together two houses know for craftmanship and attention to details in their respective lanes. On is known as a maker of comfortable performance wear, and Loewe, is in my opinion, is known well for its fine leather goods as well as its luxury garments.

It seems this collaboration debuted in March 2022, but there are still some pieces available, depending on what size you might be looking for.

The shoes feature both brands’ logos, one on either side. The designs feature either an ombre dye or an interstellar print. Similar designs are featured on the clothing. Let’s get more specific on the shoes.

These are redesigned versions of lines already in the On lineup.

Cloudrock Loewe $450

The Cloudrock is a hiking boot that largely has the same features as the regular version offered on the site. Now, there are some differences. The Loewe version features more upcycled materials. It is also roughly 3 ounces heavier than the original version. I am not an avid hiker. But if you care about your speed on the trail, it may not be a sacrifice you would be willing to make in the pursuit of style.

Cloudventure $390

The Cloudventure is best suited for running. Again, it largely has the same features as the classic. But this time it again features more recycled materials and surprisingly is also about an ounce lighter.

If you are regular shopper with On, these prices may have left you flabbergasted. However, if you are coming from the Loewe side, you probably didn’t even bat an eye. Pricing is on par with what you might expect for luxury products. Shoe prices range from $390 for the Cloudventure and $450 for Cloudrock. They also released a waterproof anorak for $890, running pants for $590, a tee for $275, and a parka for $1300.

I have noticed more and more high-end shoe collaborations. To name a few

  1. Adidas x Gucci
  2. Dior x Birkenstock
  3. Jacquemus x Nike
  4. Feng Chen Wang x Converse
  5. (I could continue this list but I will stop now)

I imagine it is largely because the designers may already like the brand and figure why not do a partnership. On the other hand, this also allows them to reach a set of consumers who want more technical or specific products without having to put the resources into research and design themselves. They can mostly just focus on design.

Now, I am not big into running and have never even tried on a pair of On shoes. So what are your thoughts? Would you be interested in trail running in some roughly $400 shoes?

The shoes are available on the On website.
