Key Notes: Clary Sage, Narcissus, Rosewood
From the brand: “A lively, sensual and bright fragrance cultivating a daring blend between nature and technology. An enveloping sage, an electric narcissus, an invigorating rosewood and a warm, metallic note of sclarene make up this composition of the future. “
I got a sample of H24 by Hermes and decided to try it for myself. I was excited when in first debuted. I personally like the women targeted fragrances from the house that I have worn. I hoped to equally love this offering for men.
I don’t have a very good sense of smell, and I am not a man. To me it smells clean. I liked it on first smell. I sprayed it on paper and thought, “This smells like a clean man. Like a man who definitely has bathed. On my skin, it was too masculine leaning for my taste, but I didn’t find it offensive.
I wanted to get some other opinions, so I asked my family to smell it when we all got together.
My mother’s initial impressions: It seemed like a fragrance that just gets caught in the back of her throat. She did not like it all, just from smelling it on paper. Lies. She hated it.
My brother’s impressions: “This smells like aftershave. Like Dad. Now I know. It smells like Gillette. Is this just expensive Gillette?”
I pointed out that it is described as a fougere, which is essentially what barbers would slap on their clients before getting them out of their chairs. So yes, it is essentially aftershave.
I had him spray it on skin, knowing it would be different. He still didn’t like it, but I could pick up the woody notes from the rosewood which I didn’t smell on the paper or on my skin.
Would I recommend this? I don’t know. Clearly, you just have to try it for yourself.
If you would like to hear from more professional noses, I have included a couple of YouTube reviews.
