After watching that TED talk yesterday, I decided to burn my own candle. In the video, Change your Closet, Change your life, the speaker relayed a story about discovering a candle she had been waiting to burn on a special occasion had melted on its own. (I assume it was a pillar candle and at that point became unusable.) I thought about my own candle I had been waiting to burn on my own special occasion. That moment when maybe I was celebrating a new job, maybe a holiday, or even just intentionally taking the time to treat myself.. No, not anymore. I decided to open the box to treat myself to its scent as just typed on my computer doing everyday tasks.

I got this Diptyque Pomander candle after first getting a smaller size in the brand’s advent calendar. I fell in love with the scent reminiscent of orange spice. When I had a good deal on this a few months ago, I went ahead and purchased this full-size. Because of the way it smells, I was going to save this until the winter. But because I enjoy it so much, I figure why not burn it in the summer. But if you would prefer just a pure orange scent, I would recommend you try Oranger. It is supposed to smell like an orange tree (the fruit, leaves, and bark), but I haven’t smelled it myself.

I will say that opening the box, it is immediately fragrant. That gets even better when you burn it. I find it fills the room but is not overpowering. After burning it for a few hours, I noticed it didn’t burn evenly across, or rather about a millimeter around the edge was still unmelted. This was easily remedied using foil. But I understand, given how expensive the brand is, that might be effort you wouldn’t want to have to exert.
