The Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection debuted yesterday. I just watched it and have some quick takes.

First, the show took place at the visually stunning Salk Institute in San Diego California.

The beautiful architecture and stunning waterways provided a fitting backdrop to the luxurious designs for the show.

If I were to summarize the looks in as view words as possible, I would say structured shoulders, draping, sparkle, and shine.

If you read my Frankie Shop post, you know I am a sucker for a statement shoulder. In this show you see a version multiple times in cropped tops.

I also noted there was a lot of draping, which to my uncultured brain seemed reminiscent to how you might attire a very wealthy ancient Grecian woman warrior.

There was also a lot of leather. You see complete looks, but you should also note the use of belting throughout the show to enhance other looks.

What stood out to me most was the eye-catching use of color. Bright orange, yellow, and blue mixed together.

If you are a wealthy University of Florida graduate, you will have loved the use of orange and blue in multiple looks. Even if you went to the University of Georgia or Florida State, you can’t tell me it wasn’t beautiful.

Something that I haven’t seen covered yet is the shoes.

The gilded touch comes all the way down to the feet, as you see gold and silver sneakers and boots.

Generally, I just remarked at how wearable it seemed. Not saying this would fit into everyday life, but there was something to how the models walked through the show. They owned the looks in way that made me think, “Yeah, I could pull that off, too.”
You might be wondering, “What even is a cruise collection?” Here is a definition from Business of Fashion:
“Cruise Collections, or resort or holiday collections as they are otherwise known, launch between the two main ready-to-wear seasons; Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter. Originally, they were created with the jet set in mind and catered for a client who needed a wardrobe for their mid-season travels to climates different to their own. Now, they have been adopted by many of the big brands as an opportunity to inject an entirely new must-have mid-season collection into market.”
