Converse jacquard knit review (and a brief reflection on freeing myself from other people’s opinions)

Note pair of shoes is attractive and that you want to add them to your closet. Add to cart. Complete order. Receive package. Open box. Take out shoes. Second guess purchase because of what others will think. Specifically think, “What is other people think they’re weird?” Consider returning them. Get reassurance from other sneaker lovers. Wear them out for the first time. Fall in love.

I purchased this pair of Vibrant Knit Chuck 70s from Mr. Porter during their sale. When I first saw them, I had no doubts. However, when they arrived, I became consumed with what other people would think of them. I was going to return them, miss out on their beauty and comfort because of what other people might think. Because maybe other people wouldn’t wear them, I thought maybe then I shouldn’t either. I started to think that they were on sale/unsold for reason.

As you can see, I am still susceptible to foolishness.

My shoes were a part of a collection that included 2 color ways: lavender frost/egret/black and my own ocean depths/egret/black. They are not like the Chucks you are used to. They feature a jacquard weave (i.e the pattern you see is created in the weaving process rather than printed on). That process ended up creating an interesting variation of texture and provides additional visual interest. The woven upper is contrasted with a high shine toe cap and bumper. My box provided both a pair of white laces and a pair of purple/black laces. I imagine the other colorway provides a similar option.

If you read my previous review of the Feng Wang x Converse, just know that these are way more comfortable, easy to walk in. And apparently, I accidently ordered half a size too small, but that all worked as it is listed as running large by that much.

So, after all my hesitation to keep these things, would I recommend them? Yes, but only if you are okay with standing out. However, I am not sure where you may be able to find them, other than through some resell sites. If they aren’t even available, why did I even post a review?

Thank you for asking.

Ultimately, this is an important reflection for me. It was such a small event, but the lesson is powerful. I need to be careful of not allowing other people make decisions for me. I especially need to wary of being swayed by what I imagine other people think. Be it my fashion choices or more important aspects of my life, I need to take responsibility to steer my course, no matter who else is along for the ride.

I don’t know who else needs this reminder, but go ahead and wear those shoes, that hat, dress, color combination or whatever it is you want. Take control of your own style and your own life. That is all. Enjoy the rest of your day.
