Give me two pair. I need two pair. So, I can get to stompin’ my Air Force Ones. – Nelly
I remember growing up when Air Force 1s were the it shoe, the cool shoe that everyone wore. I was certainly not cool then. I just continued to wear my dirty Reeboks and oversized warm ups to school. I honestly had no interest in the shoe trends.
Fast forward many years and the Air Force One is still as popular as ever. And I am just as uncool as before. However, recently I was browsing online and came across the Fontanka edition. It was an all pink pair, save the red rubber detail, mimicking the lines of eponymous river in Russia. It was at that moment that I realized I was falling in love, though very late to the party.

I was able to snag this much more interesting design. You can see how I styled it, pulling out the green and burgundy in the shoe’s colorway to create this very casual yet pulled together fit.
In addition to the stylized image of the of the Fontanka river in a contrasting color, you’ll notice some other differences as well. While, the Fontanka line features the trade mark treads, it has a little bit of a twist. If you look closely you’ll notice it is shifted. There are also scattered perforations and multiple swooshes on the tongue.

My review:
As mentioned, I never had a pair of any other AF1s before, so I can’t speak to any differences. What I can say is that I have worn shoes from Nike. I know that Nikes can sometimes feel a bit narrow for me, but I found these to be true to size to what I wear in other brands, specifically Adidas. These seem to be rather flat, not really any arch support. Personally, that is great for my feet and I was able to walk around for hours comfortably as I accrued compliments. But if you have very structured Barbie-like feet, these may not be for you.
I recommend you look into these but I have to offer a disclaimer.
Disclaimer: I have to warn you, once you go down this rabbit hole, once you start realizing how many varieties Nike has put out of AF1s and how many colorways they have, you may get trapped. You may start asking them to notify you about all new releases. You may start stalking their site. You might even download the SNKRs app and be constantly disappointed to not receive the pair you set your heart on. And then once you enter recovery from sneaker addiction and start to rebuild from the financial ruin that came of getting all the pairs, please forgive me for setting you on the path.
These and other colorways are still available on Nike site.
