Feng Chen Wang x Converse 2 in 1 Concrete (wear review)

A bit of background first, and then the review. There have been multiple versions of this 2 in 1 Converse x Feng Chen Wang before. As written on the Feng Chen Wang site, the original idea came about by deconstructing the classic Chuck Taylor.

Each shoe has a double layered sole and outer layer and was constructed by hand prior to their first showing. The classic Chuck Taylor was reformed in a way that demonstrated the concept of halves, human connection, and a sense of completion, themes which ran through her Spring Summer 19 runway show. For the show, the shoes were constructed by hand.

This edition was designed to call to mind concrete, the idea of feeling stuck, as many of us feel at this time, but also the idea of breaking free from that which restricts us. That leads into my review.

These things are heavy. It is supposed to look as if there are two shoes existing in one. And let me tell you, they feel like. They are more akin to combat boots than Chucks. There is no way you’d want to play basketball in these, unless you need a new excuse as to why you still can’t dunk.

After walking around and getting used to them, the weight was no longer as noticeable. However, the extended tongue is pretty stiff and was pretty uncomfortable against my shin. If you are wearing jeans or leggings or anything you can tuck in, you probably won’t notice. It is something to be aware of if your first priority is comfort.

When I wore it out in public, multiple people complimented me on them, remarking how they have never seen anything like it before. Well, I certainly hope to see more of them, and in multiple color ways please.

These are still available on SSense and High Snobiety Shop.
